LYCKA

Lycka / Olycka wooden lights

Collaboration Made by Choice

Design Jukka Jokinen & Heikki Konu

Lycka and Olycka lamps form a sculptural and playful lighting product family that can be used both on the wall and on the table. The lamps are available in different colors and sizes. The lighting series got its name from the Lycka sailboat, on which they sailed to Copenhagen for their first launch. The ecological lamp uses material left over from the production of other Made by Choice products, so responsibility has been taken into account in the design of these products from the beginning.

DESIGN PROCESS & PRODUCTION

Sketching

The sketching is usually done by hand and is based on creative thinking and ideation. We like to consider many options and make a lot of drawings first and then narrow down the options to find the best idea concept.

3D modeling

In 3D modeling, the shapes and exact details of the product can be precisely defined with the help of editable 3D models. We use our own 3D printer to create models of product concepts, which can be used to show how the different features of the product actually look and feel like.

Image rendering

Before a product really exists, we can create rendered images by 3D modeling and rendering the product concept. This way the customer can see how the finished product would look before the first prototype is created.

Prototypes

The lighting series got its name from the Lycka sailboat, on which they sailed to Copenhagen for their first launch in 3 Days of Design 2024.

Production

Lycka and Olycka lamps use material left over from Made by Choice’s Kolho chairs. It is productively efficient and ecologically reasonable to produce these lamps at the same time as the parts of the chair are cut from plywood. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint of both products.
